Today's Birthday

Quotation of the Day

Isabelle Dinoire

Isabelle Dinoire was the first person to undergo a partial face transplant, after her dog bit her at her home in May 2005. According to her daughter, the dog was trying to wake her mother after she took sleeping pills in a suicide attempt

The operation was performed by Professor Bernard Devauchelle together with a 50-strong team of medics in Amiens, northern France, who worked around the clock to perform the transplant. Prior to the operation she could barely eat or speak but after the operation, she could do both.

Born in 1967, Miss Dinoire lives in Valenciennes, Northern France. She is divorced and has two teenage daughters.

According to The Australian, the Frenchwoman has signed a deal with British documentary maker Michael Hughes that could make her more than £100,000 from the sale of photographs and a film of the operation.
